As summer comes to a close and the school year begins, there are two things you will see a lot more of, kids and bikes. So let’s take a minute to focus on the ABCs of bicycle safety. One, a properly fitting helmet should be as important as any school supply. In 2017, 800 bicyclists were killed across the US, and 2/3 of those fatalities involved a head injury. And remember, a bike helmet for your youngster is not just a good idea, it’s the law. Two, make sure your kids follow the rules of the road. And no darting out into traffic just to give those wheels a quicker spin. Three, take a test ride. Plan your route ahead of time to make sure your kids are aware of potential dangers. Obviously, the fewer street crossings, the better. And finally, the bicycle seat should always be a no phone zone. Make sure your kids stash those electronics before they start their ride. The truth is, you can take all the precautions in the world, but bike versus car accidents still happen. And when a careless, distracted, or impaired driver is at fault, call a Personal Injury attorney who will fight for your rights. Call Scott Smith and be safe out there.
