Two Kinds of Damages: Compensatory and Punitive

Back to Videos

Video Transcript

If you’ve been involved in a car accident and the driver who hit you was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, you probably already know you have a legitimate legal case.

But South Florida Personal Injury Attorney Scott Smith says you may not know there are “two” kinds of damages that may be awarded to you.

Compensatory damages cover past and future medical bills, along with lost wages and earning potential as well as pain and suffering. Then, there is a claim for punitive damages.

A claim for punitive damages, the type of damages to punish the defendant for causing a motor vehicle crash while under the influence of drugs or alcohol, are allowed in the state of Florida.

If you’re injured by a driver who was under the influence, you are entitled to compensation so make sure you have a lawyer who knows how to protect your rights and get you justice. Call Scott smith at (561) 500-4357.
